Open Letter to Scorpions MC - Dallas

Scorpions –

You guys rocked last Friday for the NTRR ride from West End to Alvarado.

On an afternoon where I was dealing with all hell breaking loose at the venue due to a certain individual bailing out and leaving the ride with, no waivers, no parade route, no parade permit, no ride pins, Robbie Knievel not even aware that he was supposed to be on the air with KZPS and the concert traffic next door of Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, the Scorpions came through in amazing form.

I have no idea what, if anything, L promised you, but I wanted to let you know that I sincerely thank you.

Collin Raye's "Hurricane Jane" Video Shoot

A couple weeks ago we all headed down to Lower Greenville Avenue here in Dallas to take part in the new Collin Raye video shoot for his single "Hurricane Jane". It was the day the Arcadia Theater burned to the ground just 4 blocks away. The daytime shooting took place at Hurricane Grill - naturally enough!



Most of the taping was completed on the exterior shots before the fire erupted, but as the nightclub where the bar room scenes take place, Suede, was located across the street from the Arcadia, a lot of the people that were scheduled to make cameo's didn't get to show up. The Dallas Police & Fire Depts had Greenville blocked off from Belmont to Ross Avenue (about 5 blocks) and when we left at 3:00am they were still hosing down the fire 12 hours after it started!

The video is amusing but since it hasn't debuted yet on CMT, I can't show it yet. But, here are some photos of the shoot. The Illustrious One, JB, Jaie with her new puppy and Coach Joe of the Dallas Desperados can all be spotted. While I was offered a spot in the video, I told them they could use my bike but I would not be one of the "bikers oogling the girl" since I don't bat for that team! You can see a sneak peek of me briefly in the video - I'm sitting next to Jaie who is dressed in a pink shirt and holding her puppy.

Naturally a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader was used as "Hurricane Jane"!

"Can you get these chips on land?" -- Referring to casino chips.

"Why is it so windy outside?" -- On a cruise liner traveling 30 miles per hour at the time.

"I see them!" -- The inevitable response from a member of the crowd whenever a casino dealer on a cruise liner played a favorite joke -- pointing out "penguins" on a "little piece of ice" during a cruise through Bermuda.

"So what is the elevation here?" -- On an Alaskan cruise.

"Why can't I find a USPO post box in town?" -- In Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

"I want to change cabins! I paid good money for this cruise, and all I can see is a rusted crane in the harbor!" -- Asked before leaving port.

Syd Barrett -- RIP

Syd (b: 6 January 1946 - d: 7 July 2006) was one of those creative geniuses that bordered on madness. He was one of the original members of Pink Floyd and when he departed the band was replaced by David Gilmour.

The legendary album "Wish You Were Here" was written by the band due to their loss of not having Syd involved any longer.

Syd spent the last 20 years of his life living quietly in his hometown of Cambridge, England. Royalties kept pouring in to maintain his lifestyle and he was often seen riding his bicycle or walking to the corner store. He died from pancreatic cancer.

Southern Rock Sunday

I realised today that it's been several days since I've updated -- to say things have been hectic would be an understatement.

Tomorrow will be a day of Southern Rock when I and assorted other acquaintances go to see Shooter Jennings, Three Doors Down and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Personally, I'm going for Shooter because I just saw him Tuesday when we crashed the Willie Nelson's 4th of July Picnic in Fort Worth. The kid is excellent live -- would make his daddy Waylon very proud.

I must say that the Picnic was visually interesting. There wasn't a huge crowd when we were there due to torrential downpours - and naturally we were on the bikes. I think we stood in the same place for a solid 45 minutes with our jaws dropped taking in the sights -- all I can say is that White Trash is alive and well. Some of the sights included:

• Impromptu female mud wrestling -- or maybe I should say "wrassling". You know it was going to get serious when the floosies kicked off their flip flops.
• A girl going for the "I'm Sissy from Urban Cowboy" look -- and she sported a headband that said, "Let's Get Physical". I have no idea if that was memorabilia from Olivia Newton-John's heyday or if the girl was just clueless as to how outdated that phrase is.
• One lovely female creature walked by with a wad of tobacco bulging out of her cheek the size of a plum.
• Another female was being arrested and as Magoo was surveying the apprehension, he turned to the surrounding bystanders and said, "Damn -- I had my eye on that one!"

The guys weren't much better but for the most part they were just pissed drunk.

I wondered where these people live and socialize when they aren't at Willie's Picnic...somehow I doubt I'll be seeing them at the new Ghost Bar sipping Hpnotiq anytime soon.
